I am finally gonna have some time to build my dual 55g stand I have been wanting to build. My birthday is coming up and I asking my girlfriend and family for fish related items, lol. The current stock lists for my 2 bigger tanks is:

55G: 8 Demasoni, 5 red zebra, 9 Msobo, 3 Albino Socolofi and 4 Syno petricola.
For this tank, I am working on upping the Dem #'s as I have 38 growing out right now, but they are pretty small. It'll be another 2 months or so... The red zebra, I have an ob who has recently shown himself as a male and has to go. The Msobo, I have 2 f1 adults, one male and one female. The rest are juvies, getting to about 3 inches with tail... Out of the 7 juvies, I have only one male.

40G. I use this tank as a growout and have mismatched all kinds of species, lol...
Stock right now is 5 Yellow labs(recent purchases) 3 adult Mbamba(1:2) and 2(1:1) chewere... As I said, I use this as a growout tank and also have 3 maingano juvies, and prob 15 mbamba juvies that range from about one inch to maybe 2... There is no visible aggression, and I have used this tank to grow juvies to sellable size. I;d say half the mbamba juvies will be gone at the end of march. The long term stock will be the labs and the mbamba, along with any growouts I end up having.... The chewere I am not sure if I will keep. If I do, it will be in the new setup...

Okay, enough background. I have kept quite a few species, so I'm not sure what I am wanting to stock this tank with. It will be mbuna, 3 species. In time, I may add some petricola as well, but thats later... My only definate for now is the maingano I have growing out in my 40g. I want them out asap, as they are just starting to become little terrors. I am not completely sold on them, so if they cause issues in the new setup, I will swap to a new species. I recently bought 3 new ac 70's and I have 2 of them running on the big tanks, the 3rd I am waiting on a replacement housing. The 3rd will be run on the new 55g, and the other 2 will transfer over when I decide to stock.... This should avoid any major cycling...

I am really torn on what to get. I will most likely be ordering online. I recently had f1 lion sanga's that I was growing out till I got hit with columnaris that took out part of my 40g tank. I would really like to stock them again, but there are so many choices out there... I am leaning to a cyno for sure...

I would love some suggestions. I guess I will make a short list of species that pop into my head...

Cyno lion sanga
cyno white top afra
cyno jalo reef
Elongatus chailosi
cyno afra cobue(but im not sure since it will be aggressive they may not color)
Tropheops sp. "Red Cheek" (Likoma)

I would go with the Lions again but i also like the Elongatus.. I would scrub the Red Zebra's and go up on the Soco to 6 of them..

I had another albino, but in a freak thing, got caught between two rocks. The ratio was one male to 3 females. I wanted to add more, but my lfs got some much smaller. The way my male is, I think he would tear them to shreds. I do want to up them though... As for the red zebras, I love those guys. The females at least, lol. I may just go with 4 females to solve any male aggression...

The lions were awesome, as the male was just starting to get more color every day... I am liking the chailosi, but I dont know as I have seen pics and the males when colored are amazing, while the females look nice. The videos I have seen havnt shown this though. The red cheek intrigues me as I havnt kept a species that far from the norm and they look great from what I have seen... I just cant decide what afra would be best though. I want one as the females are drab. The tank would be maingano, afra and something else that had colorful females and males..

Cool deal if they are females i wouldn't worry too much as for the females they don't seem to be out of control as the males are.. But again just be watchful aye..

Ya, I will. The one male ob will be gone soon... Any ideas for stock?

White top haras for the win! I think these guys are the best Cyno species around. The male may not be as stunning as some other cyno species but the females make up for it. They are not brown or gray but are a nice deep purple/blue. Plus they breed like rabbits. I have 3 females holding right now!
Elongatus chailosi may be neat as well. I've always heard that enlongatus are very aggressive. But so are Tropheops from what I under stand.
I would go with these 3 species:

Cyno white top hara
Tropheops sp. "Red Cheek" (Likoma)
Elongatus chailosi

I was told by a mod at cichlid forum that the tropheop red cheeks were too aggressive for a 55g. Plus the females are not as pretty as I was hoping... I was given a new species that I am looking at and considering though...

zebra long pelvic mdoka....

They are similar to my mbamba, but not exactly the same. I really like their look.... females are a little drab...

My only problem is if I order 2 out of the 3 species having drab females, I wont have a nice colorful tank...

White tops are def in the running, especially as I may be able to source them in town... If I go with white tops and maingano, thats 2 species with nice females. Then I would be torn between the lion sanga, and the zebra long pelvic mdoka....

I am open to any other thoughts on species I havent mentioned as well...I hope someone can blow me awy with a gorgeous species I dont know about, lol...

Oh, and pit, I took my male ob in to the lfs today for credit. I asked him to order some albino's for me and some cherry reds as well...

I thought Elongatus chailosi have yellow females with dark stripes? I've never seen them in person I just have seen some pictures online.
I also think zebra long pelvic is an excellent choice. I think they have a nice look. I've avoided them due to dull colored females and I was afraid my white top hara male would not like the stripes. I'm not sure.

Hmm what about a labidochromus species? Many have OB females. There are also many color variations depending on the collection point. I prefer the trewavasae species.

I'm also looking into getting the orange blaze cobue, or my new favorite, the jalo reefs...

the vids i saw of the chailosi didnt paint them into a nice light...im losing favor with the zebra long pelvic, as the females are dull...

I was thinking maybe.... the maingano, jaloa reefs, and the last one may be too big for the tank, but mpanga red trewvase have caught my eye lately... I think i need a bigger tank though

how much are you willing to pay for chailosi? cuz im considering selling mine. ive had them for almost a year now.
