New to inverts, dont know what to get.

i dont think im going to go for the shrimp. but im probably going to a apple snail or the Japanese trapdoors. and yeah i was plannign on get 2 or 3 more kuhl's.

Goldfish grow too large for a 20g, and he should be moved out and given the 30g all to himself until he grows larger; common goldfish tend to stop growing at about 8-12". For the 20g, you'll want to keep your stocking, and maybe add 2 other khuli loaches, as they like to be in groups and the single one is probably lonely. As for inverts, Apple snails are large an attractive, though they don't eat much algae, so you'll need to supplement their diet with plant-based foods such as blanched veggies or algae wafers. Nerites and Japanese trapdoors are good species of algae-eating snail. Ghost and Amano shrimp are 2 common types of shrimp; amanos will readily eat many types of algae, ghost shrimp will mostly scavenge leftover flakes. Keep in mind your betta may attempt to kill shrimp.

what do you think about moving it into the 30gal instead of the 20gal, and getting a few red mangrove crabs and have a little land part?

yeah i was, but maybe i could give it back to my local feed store and get fain tail and add what i would have in my 20gal to the 30... but do you think the crabs would be ok with the community tank? or if not and i keep the goldfish i have, would the crabs work with him?

Well, as I said, a 20g is too small for an adult goldfish, 30g is pretty much the smallest an adult could be content in. if I recall, red-claws like brackish conditions, so wouldn't be compatible with most freshwater fish.

shoot, and the only brackish tank im going to have is with my puffers...and i know they will eventually eat it.might as well just go for the community tank with the apple or nitrate snail and give the gold fish back to the feed store...even though im kinda sad they have to put it with the other feeders.
