Okay so they put a new "tails" end on the penny.

It's only been the same "heads" for one hundred and one years.

I remember when I used to collect coins and I noticed that they used to change the designs quite often back in the good old days. Why have we been stuck with essentially the same designs for so long except for a few special editions or some refacing?

Not that this is a matter of any actual importance but it sure does kind of suck.

Recognition is the reason for a lack of change. Getting the public to understand that it is of the same value and not a counterfeit is very difficult.

For example the penny changed eight times from 1793-1909. From 1909-present only twice - and only on the reverse side.

The dime changed ten times from 1793-1946. Since 1946, not a single change has been made.

Just some examples...and again, it doesn't matter...but as a former coin collector in the 80's I remember seeing that and being disappointed. I didn't expect that almost thirty years later we would still actually have these same old boring coins.

One gets sick of things and likes to redecorate after awhile!

There are always better things to spend money on....or are they?

I mean when you really think about it, aren't there better things we could all be spending money on than aquariums?

What we as individuals choose to spend our money on is our individual business. What our govt spends our tax dollars on is everybody's business.

Isn't there better places our country could be spending it's money than "redecorating" coins?

Well you could say that or there's the fact that the US Mint uses less than 5 cents to make a quarter and with all the state quarters being sold for 25 cents and then being taken out of circulation by people collecting them they've earned more than 4.6 billion dollars.

There was talk of them elipinatint the penny all together.

they say there are more pennies in coffee cans and other containers in peoples homes than there are in circulation. I know I have a couple hundred in a jar somewhere..
