I've had Pepino for over a year now, and I'm guestimating that he's very close to 12"....maybe 10 and a half?

I started out feeding him pellets, but as he grew, graduated him to mostly earthworms, with a bit of pellets, bloodworm, and some ramshorn snails rotated in. I'm raising snails for this purpose, but have just started so I don't have many right now.

For the past week or so, I've started feeding him one earthworm every other day. But of course, he's ALWAYS hungry, so it's hard to judge whether or not that is enough.

I'm going to pick up som Hikari pellets this weekend, and think I may supplement the earthworms with the pellets for the most part.

How do you figure it out when they are bigger?

I feed mine 6 Hikari Large/Floating pellets 2 x a day and not too much live food as I don't want disease, bloat, or other problems. (Already been down that road)

I guess I'm more concerned about how often. Is an earthworm every other day enough? Or an earthworm with a couple of pellets?

Oh, you are definitely going to want to feed more than a earthroom every other day. Live food is great (if sanitary) but you do want to supplement with some sort of carb (pellets are great). I would combine pellet avec the earthworm on a daily basis. Two small meals in a day if you can do it. :) Good luck!

Depends on how often you want to be cleaning your tank. Oscars are messy eaters. Most fish, especially adults, will have no problems going several days without food. Fish generally don't get to pig out to their hearts' content in the wild, big meals can be a rarity. Now that my cichlid tank is all grown up, I actually only feed them about 3-4x a week. IT keeps them from getting fat and it keeps the tank cleaner.
