View Full Version : Looks like I'm going on a pet commute hike here.

I've gotten so worried about my catfish in this weather with the electricity being off and them being sick that I'm getting ready to bundle up and hike a few miles to see them.

I still have no working car because "they might get to it on Monday".
Who knows what's wrong with it and when it'll be repaired.
I can barely speak or eat as a result of the sore throat and I still feel feverish. So much for "get plenty of rest and fluids" until I feel better.
You just know I'm "so excited " go on a winter hike in this condition.

I hope you people who kept criticising me because I cannot expand my hobby or keep extra, growing baby fish I do not have space for and do not find new homes, keep this in mind.

If the car is fixed tomorrow and the electricity is still off where they are boarded, I'm afraid I will be froced into the hard choice of "dumping" a tank here to accodomate the sick synodontis. I don't really see any other choice if the electricity is off, they do not live with me due to my income/lack of home situation and need treatment. Commuting which is always a nusense has become nearly impossible under these circumstances.

I will put up a quick ad if it comes down to that, but I will not have much time to babble about why I can't ship, I will need to move an entire tank of fish ASAP. Not like before when I waited about a month trying to rehome baby plecos . The synos/catfish are my true fishy love, so you'd understand right?.
None of the fish here can co exist with the synodontis because they are too sma..

Here's crossing my fingers that the electricity comes back on soon.

PS: The give away betta boarded at my parents has died as a result of the long wait for a new ho,e.
I suppose not too surprising with the weather we've been getting which has blocked many regular commuting trips.
The last time I commuted to my parents, there was absolutly no time for anything except to quick give the synos an extra water change and even that I goofed up because while I was "wolfing" down a lunch plate, the floor flooded from the siphon.
"Lets GOOOO!..( We were supposed to quick stop off for lunch and I squeezed in an extra water change because of the synos' illness issues). "Ummm...I had an "accident".

I don't know about anyone else reading this, but your post doesn't make much sense to me. You're homeless right now? Where are these fish that they don't have any electricity? I am guessing at your parents - their electricity is off? If so, I would be worried about your parents freezing moreso than the fish. So you're going to walk to their house in the snow when you're sick? I wouldn't. Just take care of yourself. Fish are important, but not as important as people. Please don't think I'm criticizing you. If you've explained your situation in another post maybe you should link to it to fill the gaps in this one.

It sounds like you are feeling really frustrated, sick and angry at this point. I hope that you will take care of yourself first, and your fish, second. I, too, hope that the power comes back on and that you are able to take are of the situation. I'm not sure what else there is to say.

I just saw your other thread...I'm sure you wish you could take back that part about wishing your fish would get a disease and die, that you said that in a moment of desperation and frustration.

Of course such a sentiment is going to draw criticism on an aquarium forum dedicated to keeping fish, just as it would in a forum about lizards or snakes. I'm sure there are plenty of times that it becomes inconvenient to keep both those sorts of pets but no responsible owner would say "oh I wish they'd just die"!

It definitely sounds like you need to liberate yourself from your aquariums and focus on yourself. So don't delay - post that ad now, and hope by the time you are ready to rehome all of those fish and all that equipment, that enough people will see it so you have homes secured for all of your charges.

No matter where you are in your life, don't take it on your fish. They are really not deserving of such acrimony.

.

I shortened the above for brevity sake.

I would first like to say eup I hope the road rises to meet you !!!!!!!

Now to the people who need to be detractors I would offer this as a thought. Have care at the downtalk you do for it looks real funny when the food you get to eat is humble pie served with a slice of crow for dessert. Really I would use the proverb Don't criticize another person till you have walked a mile in their shoes, even then don't critize them but be thankful you have their shoes and they are a mile away from you!!!!
But seriously people need to stop slamming other people in type and realize there is a living breathing human being on the other side of the screen.

Eup, though we are called to give our fish the best care we can, please do not be overly burdened by fry that show up use them as feeders, give them away or cull them if you have to. After all fish are in the end only fish.

I constantly have fry in my tanks, after all the fish get board of swimming around all the time and when that special lady winks it just happens .
At any rate until I am actually trying to breed fish for resale, I will leave the fry well enough alone to be an extra source of protein for whoever can catch them. And when some fry do actually grow to juvi/adult I usually just give them away for free or dirt cheap.

Eup, the only reason I am running so many and so large tanks is because it is actually the formation of my fish companies display room and is used as a place to sell people tanks 150g+. Personally if I was not heading into a fish business I would have maybe 2-3 tanks 1 being a sw. so I could actually just sit back and enjoy the hobby not be a slave to it. Please do not get down in the dumps about what people say whether they say it with good intent or malicious, just focus on what works best for ya.

Have a great day
