In his highly regarded book, Natural Reef Aquariums, Mr. Tullock seems to say (at pages 269-270) that invert foods are at best unnecessary and at worst tank pollutants.
I assume he means things like MicroVert, Phytoplex, Zooplex, MarineSnow, etc.
Am I interpreting what he says correctly and, if so, what do you think about his view?

Yeah, that's what he says. But I have no idea how the new foods compare to what he was talking about. I use real phytoplankton, either DTs or Tahitian blend. Not sure if it helps, but it doesn't pollute. I rely on the inverts and fish to breed and make zooplankton for me.

I use a cap a day of DTs Phytoplankton in a 90 gallon. No adverse effects other than healthy corals from what I can tell. I am curious to know what he feels it pollutes. I am no scientist or doctor in the field but from my experiences so far I think I will stick with what I have been doing in regards to DTs Phyto.

I also feed DT's and have seen impressive growth in both clams & feather dusters.
