Agree with cancrid from the shape. Thought it might be a grapsis but the legs don't really look long enough. Coral munchers. To the sump with that guy!

Hey greech whats the odds of having more than one ?

Hey greech whats the odds of having more than one or two of em?

I have no sump either :( so to the freezer he goes I think thats the most humane right?

No don't freeze him. Just keep him in a tupperware container with some tiny holes in it and sit it on your sand with a little rock on top. Take him to your LFS when you go next. Or you can keep him in the bucket as long as you can keep it somewhat warm. You might get some credit for him.

It possible you have more than one but that would be pretty good odds out of what 30ish lbs of rock?

I agree ^^. I don't like to kill things, even if they are troublemakers. They are just doing what they are supposed to do.

I havent put in the sand because Im full of these hitchhikers :( You think that means those other ones I have are bad to? Is there more than one usually crab?

kahlua

Seriously man don't sweat these HH's. EVERYONE goes through this and most of them turn out to be nothing but a good thing anyway. Put it this way, if I bought "live" rock that didn't have at least one HH, I would feel like I got ripped off :) It's all good. Your tank is looking good. Just focus on getting the tank settled/cycled and do some research on what kind of a CUC, fish and corals you want to start with.

03-01-2010, 7:24 PM
alright thanks a ton guys for the help going to call the lfs! You guys think Im okay while there to pick up some cuc dudes?

Remind me again, how long has this tank been running and how are your water test results coming?

kahlua
03-01-2010, 7:28 PM
last nights test everything at 0. All the colors were in the top bar in the test kit.
Its been up about 1 1/2 weeks so far.

You think cuc would be safe?

greech
03-01-2010, 7:35 PM
Hmm, I hate it when its zero so early on. You either got really good/cured rock with no die off or you haven't started cycling yet. I would recommend waiting a little longer and testing a bit more especially since you haven't added your sand yet. A CUC will probably not survive an ammonia spike if you have one.

Edit: You should ask your LFS about the quality of the rock you got and possibly bring them a water sample to double check yours. Knowing whether or not your rock was fully cured when you bought it would be helpful. Just keep in mind LFS's are businesses and therefore must make a profit. Not saying they would intentionally give bad advice but I have been to a few that do.

K I will add the sand tonight Just hate the way my rock looks lol. The rock I got is full of purple and green coraline so far

Never, ever release aquarium specimens into the wild, unless your tank is based on local wildlife and uses all native organisms. This is not something I'd recommend at all. It can be ecologically destructive.

Only for a short period of time--a few days at most with temps under 65 or so.

No worries where Im from the only thing we got is lakes and there frozen solid for the next little while haha

kahlua

Umm, those two statements don't quite fit :) Most reefers think that brown/white rock is unattractive and can't wait to get purple coraline let alone green.

Yeah that came across the wrong way. I ment the way I scaped it looks terrible lol

I knew it wouldn't really work for you, but I don't want anyone else getting the wrong idea. Innocent intentions toward releasing pet fish have been catastrophic--much of southern Florida is prime example.

Holy crap thats true I never thought of that, it is good for others to know I completely agree :) There having that snake problem right now right? Well somewhere is I cant rem but there where they should'nt be anywho

Amphiprion

Snakes are the tip of the iceberg ;). There are quite a few things. You'll find that there are lots of different species encompassing many groups there in Florida.

Yep, the history of the escapee, an invaders tale lol. The only good thing to come out of that sort of thing is that the invading species is less likely to die out. Sucks for the invaded though...

Examples of stupid people doing stupid things include, but are not limited to, Australia toads, the ivy of the USA, the frogs and birds and insects of hawaii, the goldfish in the township pond, the evil carp things in a river that flows into the great lakes (barely holdin em back) and many other things like viruses, humans ourselves (most invasive species on earth) and rodents.

Ya, those lionfish invading florida and surrounding area is terrible. Amazing what damage can come from releasing just a few non-native species into the wild. :(

Fishfriend1
03-01-2010, 8:25 PM
Is the Lionfish problem around Florida just so obvious it is assumed now? ;) To me that is the biggest example for someone in our hobby. lol.

I was thinking of the anaconda problem lol. The lionfish prob is bad though.

don't forget cat in Australia thay have managed to wipe out most of the smaller marsupials on the continent.

btw you find out anything from the LFS yet?

Troy it got off topic because you suggested something that should never be done... not quite "Mod-Like" behavior.

Any word on whether the LFS will take the little guy or not? He's adorable!
