hey i just went to a LFS to buy some pre-packaged frozen beefheart becuase i want to start feeding it to my Snakehead (i know its cheaper to buy it from the butcher..but this was easier and faster...if he does start taking the beefheart..then i will start goin to the butchers)....i was wondering if i had to do anything before i feed it to him...
its frozen obviously...so do i take out a chunk and thaw out first?
also...do i have to wash it or prepare it in any way? or do i just let it thaw out a bit then chuck it in the tank...
how long should i let it thaw out for? until it is completely unfrozen? or just so its not ice hard?
any help regarding this will be much appreciated...thanks!!

you don't need to thaw it. I just buy my beef heart from my lfs, its much easier...

Piggybacking myself :(

One of the earliest "fish shop" memories I have is of my Mom and Dad preparing fresh beef heart to sell in the shop.
First- they bought these huge boxes of hearts, which were encrusted with fat and gristle and veins. Really gross and they had to sit there and trim all the fat and nasty bits off. Then you have to dissect each heart and remove more veins- the better you clean them up the nicer the end product and they did it correctly. Then they had to grind the things in a meat grinder- this was before the huge high power grinders we have today. The grinding took forever, then it had to be weighed and packaged for resale.

Then the whole kitchen had to be disinfected- yukk-o-mundo.
Buying it at a LFS is the easy way out!

but its hella expensive at teh LFS...its like 8 bux CAD for a package of 24 small cubes...my fish is about 6 and a half inches right now (red snakehead), and right now im feeding it about 1-2 feedesr a day...depending onhow big it is....
how many of these 1 CM squared cubes should i feed him a day? 1? 2?

and i've heard that when they get bigger,...like over a foot long, then you can feed them less frequently??

also...if i buy the beefheart from the buthcers, would i have to do all the preparation? like cutting out the veins and all that? what kinda prep would i have to do?

any tips would be great...thanks guys for the help so far guys!!
