What are some aggressive fishes that would be able to thrive in a 55 gallon ( I want more than two to be able to live in the tank)?
And what would be some good aggressive fish for a ten gallon?

Convicts, firemouths, Green terrors can all go into a 55g. I don't know very many non-cichlids, sorry.
I believe pH is the concentration of H+ atoms in water (not 100% sure though). 7 is considered neutral, anything below 7 is considered acidic, and anything above 7 is considered alkaline.
