Hello,
I recently purchased my first canister filter:grinyes::grinyes::grinyes:. It is an Eheim Pro II 2028. It should be here any day now. I have a small problem however. I see that many people talk about lubricating parts of the filter, mainly with Vaseline. So my questions are

1) What areas do I need to lubricate?
2)How Do I go about lubricating moving parts?
3) What if Vaseline gets into my water??

Thanks

DO NOT USE VASOLINE!

Vasoline is a petroleum product that will cause the rubber to swell and eventually, prematurely fail. What you need to use is a non-petroleum grease. I use pool lube from Leslie’s Pools. It is the cheapest option of non-petroleum products. You may also use Plumbers Grease…it also comes in a tube, but is a little more costly. I lube all rubber parts every time I clean that piece of equipment. I have never had to buy replacement rubber on equipment I’ve maintained…more than 20 years. Either of these products are safe to use in your aquarium…I have both salt and freshwater tanks.

EDIT TO ADD: You are only using this on rubber stuff. Moving parts don't need lubrication.

Make certain that there is no sand or other debris on the interior rim of your canister (where the o-ring slides when reassembling the filter).

Run your forefinger down each side of your nose, run forefinger around the canister area mentioned above. Seat pump housing on canister.
