I picked up two Bolivian Rams at my LFS a while ago. The girl helping me said that she believed one was a male and the other was a female. I know that they might not pair up, but as long as they get along well I don't really mind if they don't spawn. From what I've read here and on http://www.cichlid-forum.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=142702 it looks like the one is definitely a female and the other is a male. I was able to get a few decent shots of the suspected female, do you agree?

Hey, can I piggy-back and ask how you're identifying this ram as a female? I have one too and have no clue as to the gender.

Thanks!

the second dorsal ray is usually extended making it taller than the first ray.similar to alot of male apistos.also, the top caudal fin ray is almost always longer and trailing than the bottom ray.yours does appear to be female.good luck.

the main thing I was looking at is this:

"First up, ventrical differences:

Notice how the males tapers back and is considerably smaller whereas the females points more downwards and is visibly fatter"

FM, how is she doing, the color is a little washed out, hope it is the flash.

she was really stressed at the lfs, but has been getting better each day. they had about 10 or 15 rams mixed with some other breed of cichlid in a tank that had nothing in it other than gravel. when I first brought her home she cowered under a rock for the first couple of days. it took 4 days to get her to eat, but now she is readily accepting blood worms and exploring the tank, so I expect a full recovery.

Hey, so finally got some decent pics of mine, but I'm still not sure. Can someone help me too with the sexing?
