So I replaced my Emperor 280 with an Emperor 400 on my 44g pentagon brackish tank. Now the plastic hood does not fit anymore. I can't figure out how to cut out the extra space needed to accommodate the longer filter. The plastic is fairly thick at something like 1/4", and I really, really don't want to mess with trying heat/cut that much plastic. Plus, I kinda hated that hood anyway. So, I'm thinking about replacing it with a glass canopy like this. I'm thinking that I *should* be able to accommodate it by either leaving off the plastic bumper or cutting it to fit around, but I have to compare the measurements to my tank at home to be sure.

I found the same canopy on Ebay for about the same price, but that seller also has the Tom Dive Clean Mini that I was thinking of getting for my 2.5g bowfront at work (currently has an Exo Terra submersible filter that I'm not crazy about). So I'm thinking of getting them both to save on shipping. Now, to sneak it past hubby....

Yeah, our dog ate hubby's Dremel, lol. I'm not too unhappy about having to get a new glass hood since that plastic one is so beat up and stained and just plain ugly. I like being able to look through the top also and move the light strip as needed.
