I am getting tired of the salt splatter onto my reflectors and I am considering making a frame just below them and add a piece of plate glass to keep the salt of the reflectors and damaging them. will 1/8" thickness be ok or should it be thicker? will the glass block any of the useful light spectrum?

I would use a thin sheet of acrylic. It tends to transmit light a bit better with less absorption and attenuation. Yes, both glass and acrylic will attenuate light and absorb some spectra. You just have to pick the lesser of the evils. Either that, or try to reduce splashing or whatever is causing the splash to begin with. The latter is easier said than done, unfortunately.

I get some splash, myself, but I wipe it off weekly. A good oil-based cleaner for the reflectors can protect them from most of the splash (not all but most). I use Zep stainless steel cleaner. If you get it, be sure it is the non-abrasive kind.

thanks Amp. the splash is a slight mystery . my lights are about 15" above the tank and I don't have anything making a "splash" so I find it slightly strange how I get salt splatter up there. I will need to look into that "ZEP" cleaner. wheres the best place to look for it?

HOme Depot was where I've always found it.
