Ok with paperdragons dilemma I have been reading some of the links, and they raise a few questions. I want to make sure that I understand...

The way that I am understanding it is that even if a fish does have it, it can not show symptoms, and that basically everything will be fine in the tank until something stresses the fish, which causes it to become symptomatic. At which point then the rest of the fish can become infected and it would increase the chances for a human to become infected.

If the fish is asymptomatic, then the chance for a human to get it would lessen as well?

Or is none of this accurate?

Thanks!

Tonya

Ok a bump and some more questions...

What about the inverts in the tank? Plants?

Inverts aren't likely to catch a fish disease. That doesn't mean they aren't carriers just that they rarely seem affected by them.

If a fish has TB, the others become carriers by default. Just like someone having a cold. Person A can have a cold and person B then visits person A and C and C gets a cold but B never does.

If a fish has TB, yes you can catch it, but not too likely if you maintain normal hygiene habits to include washing your hands after handling the fish or equipment. That doesn't mean you won't be affected but that you have greatly minimized the risk.
