Hi, my son and I have recently started a couple of tiny aquariums and consequently have murdered several fish. I bought some books and discovered that the smaller your aquarium, the more difficult it is to maintain them. Anyway, what I have left is my tiny "hospital aquarium," 1.5 gallons, with two very healthy shrimp-things and one blue Mystery snail. My question is about my snail... he/she has done very well, is very active, but now has this long stringy bumpy stuff hanging about him/her. Is that snail poop? Is that snail baby-egg-stuff? I know the snail won't last forever unless I give it a part-time cool-temp place to live, but I'd like to know more. I will have a LOT of questions later!

Welcome to AC! As for the snail question, I can't be sure without seeing it, but I am 99% sure that what you are looking at is poop de snail. Mystery snails lay very visible egg clutches. You wouldn't mistake them for anything else.

We have a great invertebrates section here with loads of info on snails, shrimp, crays and other loveable inverts.

Thanks - Man - that's one poopy snail, though. I feel sorry for the little shrimp-things ... I guess I'll be doing a 50% water change tomorrow. Appreciate your help. I'll be asking for more help later.

Welcome! For something as small as 1.5 gallons, you could do a betta with adequate filtration, but you're probably going to want to limit to shrimp and snails (which are cool in their own right). The big thing for something that small is frequent water changes. I'd say at least once per week do a 2 quart water change.
