Was moving these guys into their permanent setup today, and found this male. Hadn't seen him in a while, and had assumed that he'd eaten his clutch like the other one did. By my count it should be about 10 or so days along now, so hopefully that'll mean fry sometime this week.

Mellow, I tried but after a while, the orange light just scared him into the grass. That's literally the only one that came out in a passable manner.

Really nervous about moving the guy, but he can't stay where he is now. There's a pair of aggies in there who look to be close to mating. Thanks for looking everyone.

if you move him, try to keep him in water the whole time... maybe net him, but keep him in the tank, and let him swim into a cup, then move the cup... I'd imagine you'd have a lot more luck with him keeping his eggs that way.

Thanks everyone! Mellow, I'm definitely going with the cup method. Not entirely sure right now where I'm moving him to though.

Congratulations and good luck, I'm looking forward to more good news & pictures AFTER the release (don't want to scare the little fella!)!

Thanks Mys! I'm gonna be moving him today when home from work. He'll be living in a plastic strainer posing as a breeder trap for the next little while, so it should be easier to get shots of the guy.

So cool!

You should be able to turn the assist lamp off. I never use mine for the same reason.

Wow, really? I never knew I even had that option lol. Gotta break out the user's manual when I get home I guess lol.

Well, after all the hard work finding him and gingerly cupping him out of the tank and into his strainer, it took him all of 20 minutes to find his way out of it. In the interest of stressing him out as little as possible, I just threw a whole bunch of loose plants and moss in there. Hoping that many of the fry will survive, as none of the inhabitants are that voracious of predators. Either way, I'll be sure to keep you guys updated!

No surviving fry from the last batch, but they're at it again. This clutch has been brooding since the 6th, and I'm considerably more prepared for fry this time around. Lets hope we get some swimmers!
