i have a diy light hood that has 29, 27w compact florescent day light bulbs. regular pea gravel type substrate. and no co2 just yet. i will soon but would like suggestions for both with co2 and without co2. i also have 3 tinfoil barbs that don't mess with my plants as long as i substitute them with lettuce and broccoli and spinach. i also dose with fertilizers that are suggested on this site.

o sorry it is a 125 gallon tank.

since there are a lot of factors you just going to have to start getting plants and working your way up. its hard to say with that set up what you can grow or not. CFL are not that effective. since you dont have reflectors who know how much of that light is really getting to your plants. you more likely would have been better off over driving some t8 or just getting a t5 ho set up.

it was so much more fun building my own. probably more expensive in the long run but much much much cheaper in the short run. i will have reflectors shortly just need the time to make them. already have the mirror glass to make them and the glass cutter and the know how. thanks for the comments. ill keep yall posted on my plant growth so far the growth is exponential and the colors are vibrant. i have had some of my plants grow 1/4 there size in 4 days. I am expecting algae but havnet had any yet.

i don't know, Mg... with 780 watts over a 125 i don't really think cfl's or reflectors are going to be huge issues personally. my issue would be the meter spinning and the cost of replacing 30 bulbs at a time. i'd think with proper co2 and ferts there wouldn't be anything that won't grow in there.

thanks for the info guys replacing the bulbs shouldnt be a big problem. if you buy in a contractors pack the lights end up being about 50 dollars and i am going to keep my recipt as they have a 3 year warenty. any thing before my 3 years please give me another. great info sill wanting a plant list recommendation though.
