Yay! It arrived today! Sushi and I are so excited. I will be venturing out here soon to get him a thermometer, water and conditioners he needs per your recommendations. This new bowl is over two gallons and has a screen on the top. He has made escape attempts in the past, so this new bowl brings a lot of piece of mind about that!

Thank you again everyone for all your help! :)

Thanks!

How hard would it be to add a real plant to this tank? Is that feasible?

EDIT: posted question in plant area.

I had the same problem but when I actually read the rest of the post I saw the bit about having to copy and paste the link. :o

You can to copy the link and paste it into your browser's address bar to get the link to work. Not sure why but it does work when you do that.

it works when you paste because Geocities or Angelfire for that matter doesn't allow remote image loading from a link outside of the same directory (if you have a webpage with a link and have them on the same "server") then it works... so people can't suck up all of their webspace with signature pics or avatars/icons :p

If you're just using it to post pictures, villagepictures.com or yahoo photo albums would be better. Sorry for hijacking the thread :p

btw: the new tank looks cool

Jenny,
Very nice Bowl, I think this is a very nice upgrade. As for a plant that you can use for your tank; you could use either java fern or java moss. But if you have nice lighing, you could try Hornwort. It is a very nice plant that floats on top of the tank. My bettas would enjoy hanging in the floating plant waiting to pounce on floating flakes of food.

Ok guys, sorry about the links. I uploaded them to my Webshots account from work, since I couldn't get it to work from home last night. You can now just click on them without having to copy and paste. :)

Thanks so much for the replies. I got him a new plant today (java fern) and hopefully he'll like it. I'll make a different post about what else I bought him.

The only thing I'm somewhat worried about with his new bowl is that the back of it is mirrored. I've read that a mirror can be good for them to play with once in awhile, but having it there all the time would wear him out puffing up at it all the time. Any ideas? Should I scrape the mirror finish off the back, plant a ton of plants to conceal, etc.? I'd appreciate the feedback.

Thanks as always! :)

Your betta should be a lot happier in his new home as he will have some swimming room. The screen is a really good idea too. I vote for a little java moss for the new tank. It is really hardy and tolerates low light well.

It's a divided tank, but only 2 gallons total. Would you recommend against my getting another Betta or would he prefer some company?

I would just conceal it:)

I would not put a divider in your 2 gallon tank and get another betta for that tank. 2 gallons is a very small body of water and will foul twice as fast if you double the number of fish in it. Also, both bettas may become stressed having another neighbor of their own kind so close by unless you used an opaque divider. My pet store betta is in a planted 5 gallon tank by himself and I am in the process of setting up a planted 10 gallon tank for him (I added water yesterday and today will add Amquel and NovAqua, and over the next several days will adjust pH, dH, plants, and add a small amount of aquarium salt). My plakat is the sole occupant of a 15 gallon planted tank.

The mirrored portion of your tank will give him all the company he needs. I ocaissionally prop up a mirror outside the tank and then take it down after half an hour or so. I like to think of it as a confidence booster for the betta or plakat in that he was able to chase an interloper out of his realm. ;)

Ok, thanks guys. :)

I decided to just conceal the mirror with the plants. He wants to know who in the heck the new guy is, but he's having fun playing. :D

I agree, I think I'll keep him to his lonesome. I do have two other large bowls if I decide I want another Betta later. I like that he has all this space now to swim and play.

Thanks again!
