Was wandering around aimlessly at Walmart as my wife was doing last minute shopping when I came across Rainfresh Water systems. Reading the box i thought gee this sounds like a alternative to RO. Checked the web page http://www.rainfresh.ca/ and started to read.

"What does a ceramic cartridge do ? How does a it work ? Why is it so inexpensive if it does so much ? Ceramic technology is over 140 years old and is used all around the world to provide safe drinking water. The extremely fine pores (less than 0.3 micron in size) trap and disinfect bacteria using silver, trap cysts and are 99.99999% effective. They are also capable of filtering very fine dirt or silt. The core of solid microbloc activated carbon is extremely effective in reducing tastes and odours. Our simplified manufacturing process, our volume and our channels of distribution allow us to provide ceramic based products at very reasonable prices. In addition, because the cartridge is cleanable and reusable, it provides extended, economical performance."

Is this a viable method for good water for a marine tank?
It was a heck of a lot cheaper the buying an RO unit.

It doesnt remove nitrates, phosphates, silicates, etc.

Just removes some larger minerals and sediment in the water.

Definitely ask your public utility for their numbers - after all, it's free information :)
