I have the Rena XP2 canister filter for my 36 gal corner tank. I've heard that biofiltration is also necessary if your filter does not have the wet/dry capability. My question is do I need to have a biowheel or other biofilter method to supplement my canister filter? Thanks.

As long as you have media in the filter like a sponge, or noodles, the canister filter will support biologial filtration. The bacteria use the dissolved oxygen from the water. Making certain you have adequate surface agitation to promote gas exchange, or heavy plantings, you should be fine. If your fish are not gasping at the surface, the only thing to be worried about is a power outage.
