Hi, successful multie breeders!
All my friends here know about my frustration with these little creatures. Trying to find some answers, I want to ask 2 questions to my breeder friends:
1. Do you think that vacuuming the substrate well once a month can upset the multies and disturb their breeding efforts?
2. Do you think that the tank's light should be kept turned off, to provide more privacy for the multies to breed? (I keep the tank's light turned on for a period of 6 1/2 hours daily).
Thanks for your advices and friendship! :thm:

My multi tank is my most neglected tank since it's in my bedroom, yet they are breeding. I don't do much with them, other than weekly water changes. I don't gravel vac their substrate since it's mostly sand. The lights are off a lot, most of the time they just get natural daylight.

Efors, I clean and vac the sand once a week, but I do it carefully so I don't disturb the shell and sand layout they've arranged. I also leave my lights on for 12 hrs. daily. In the 3 months I've had them, they've bred 3 times. Maybe try the reverse of what you're doing, more WC's and lights on longer and see what happens. Also, is it possible that they are just too young yet? Good luck and keep us posted.

I did weekly (usually) vacs and had the lights on for 6 hours a day...never had fry issues.

i could never get fry when doing water changes. so i do a WC on my breeder multies one every few months. the water quality stays great. i clean the carts alot, i dont vacume the bottom, but i do ocationally suck a few gallons out off the top and add some fresh water. also, i dont clean for algae, i let the snails do theirProxy-Connection: keep-alive Cache-Control: max-age=0 0best. i clean the front pane only when i can no longer see in. i disturb my multies as little as possible. i feed them most days, but not everyday, and the lightcycle just varies. but i have fry pumpin out all the time.

mine breed if I sneeze. i do normal maintenance, disrupt the crap out of their shells, routinely pull shells to bag and I still get new fry frequently. What are you feeding?

Well efors buddy i still think you have all males or all females..

Mine are in a 20gal long, sand substrate, coralife compact flor 50/50, a few pieces of THR, about 10 shells i got most from Afrocichlid off of his beach, weekly water changes with light vacuum, lights stay on for 12 hrs a day, feed twice daily, anubias nanna, Malaysian snails, and non stop breeding action..

May i suggest trying to add a few more Multis say about 6 more and do you have anything else in the tank fish and invert wise with them..

Spirulina flakes 3 days a week, decapsulated brine shrimp eggs 2 days a week, frozen cyclops 1 day a week. Fast day on Sundays.

Pitt, I'm sure I have 3M, 2F and 3 too young to be surely sexed; even though I think of those 3 youngsters, there is at least a male and a female. So, the sex ratio is not the best, but I have multies of both genders.
I can try to find a few more multies, but it is not going to be easy here. I know where I can try to find them, anyways. No other fishes or inverts are with them in the tank.
With all the advices, I will put a plan B in action. If it doesn't work, it will then be the time for a plan C (C for Cialis that is going to be added in the water, LOL!!!).
Thanks for all your help, my friends!

Can it be a helpful stimulus for breeding, if I add in the tank 6 to 8 more shells?
