So next week I have my spring break and I was planning on setting up my 30 gallon tank by breaking down my two (almost) 20 gallon tanks (I say almost because they're closer to like 17.5 gallons 24"L x 12"D x 14"H). However, in the one tank I have a pair of kribensis that I have bred once and appear to be getting ready to do so again. So I was wondering how long I had to wait before I can transfer the fry over (if they have them)?
If I do set up this 30 gallon I have 2 options for how to do it: break down the top tank (I have the tanks on a 2 tier stand at the moment and the 30 gallon stand is 2 tier as well) and use it's water/filter/decor/etc to set up the 30 gallon and then just remove a large amount of water from the kribensis tank and place that below the 30 gallon OR I could try and transfer everything to the 30 gallon.
If I can transfer them to the 30 gallon what would be the best method of doing so? I don't think I have a fine enough net to catch all the little guys so I was wondering if I could possibly use a vacuum to transfer them straight in to the 30 gallon or would this cause too much stress and/or have too high a risk of harming/damaging the fish?
And of course there is always the option of just waiting longer to set up the new tank :-\ but it's taken me since January to convince my parents that we have enough room to set up the tank already and I'd rather not try and start that battle again. lol :y220d:
Oh and I was already planning on using the bottom tier of the 30 gallon stand to house one of the tanks that I'm currently using but I was more planning on using it as a grow out tank for the fry and/or a small planted community tank. So it will be still set up regardless I just would prefer to have the adult kribs in the 30 and I'm not sure if removing a majority of the water from tank (so that it's mobile) would also cause too much stress on the adults and/or fry.
Any suggestions? Thanks!
