I wrote you like a three paragraph response and i guess i did not send it >.< and now it does not exist.
I will sum it up though. I recently dealt with a fish disease. Since I am right now studying microbiology i had an advantage when it comes to parasites, since i have much reference materials about them. I treated this fish (he had ich) by raising the salinity to the highest he could take, and upping the temperature to the high end. Parasites and bacteria are very sensitive to changes in salinty, temperature, pH, oxygen levels etc. Therefore IMO i believe you should try moving him to a hospital tank (can be a large tupperware container or something of the sort) and increase two variables to the max he can take. I did this with a very young molly so they are pretty durable. I do not know much about gouramis. I think this kind of treatment is much better than chemicals since such chemicals can permanently affect your aquarium ie Copper sulfate = death to inverts.
Also, if you find the name of the beasty attacking your fish then let me know, I will see if I can dig up some information on it for you.
