I have a 65 gallon tank (which i built) im not sure that it would be able to handle the pressure of being an aquarium which it was intending for so I was thinking frogs would be a cool idea but i have no idea about them, what they need or how to set up their home.

Any ideas, tips, pics, and advice on how to start a frog tank would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks :)

well from what i'm reading you probably what to do a water area but not really all that deep just a place for them to be submerged in. don't have much experience with them so you might have to wait for some one more knowledgeable to chime in.

edit: o ya one other thing are you wanting to go planted with this? if so i think you should check out some of the other tanks on here to give you some ideas there are some good ones that might have elements that are suited for your tank

cool thanks for your help anyway! im super excited about getting this under way! it will be a nice change from all my fish tanks :)

yeah it seems that way, cheaper to set up to i imagine. do they need heating or anything like that? or lighting for that matter? any kind of filtration in the water? do you have to do water changes etc? i am totally clueless..

mm well i would have heating of some sort and i've read on one site that thay recommended a basking area for the frogs and a heat pad (can be found at most pet stores). for water i would do a pond type area with a small waterfall to make the water fall you could use a submersible pump or a canister filter if you have one but i don't think a a filter is really needed.

again though look around at what other people have built and you should get some ideas, also vivarium forum is another good place to look at stuff and get info at.

wow a waterfall that would be awesome! i think i have a spare filter lying around and a heck of a lot of air pumps and prob a spare heater but they are prob much to big for a little swimming pool.. i shall go check out that forum. thanks heaps!

How much water you'll need depends on the species you want to keep. Something lie Bullfrogs will need about 80-90% water space with only enough land space to emerge, while most toads and treefrogs are fine with a small dish to submerge in. With a tank that size, you could fit pretty much any frog in existence, probably even a colony of them.
