So i noticed one of my Sparkling Gouramis guarding an area in the tank, for the last day or so, i thought it was just marking its spot in the tank. But it keep looking up at a leaf above it. And i looked closer and there is a bout 30 tiny fry's, just chilling. For some reason i thought they were bubblenester's. There is no bubble nest, and the frys are underwater a ways, under a java fern leaf.

Well I've always have the intake covered, and there is a bit of current from a HOB filter. Blackwater, low tech, heavily planted, with a lot of floaters. Will the babies survive if i just leave them. Only have the 3 Gouramis in a 10g.

Thanks all!

I had my sparkling gourami spawn too. They always make there bubble nests under the water. I had them do this 3 times. Once every about 6 weeks and then never again. The male will eat the eggs. He might be guarding them but I watched him pick them off every once in a while give it a day or two and you will have no fry left. Your best bet is to keep them seperated, my problem I believe was lack of enough food. I kept them for about a month successfully in a established tank but they still ended up dying. Good luck.

Very cool! I've not had any experience with sparkling gouramis (not enough tanks, too many predators bigger than them), so I really can't give any guidance on this other than I believe they are like bettas in that they may guard the fry up to a point and then start eating them after that point. You might want to set up a 5g grow-out tank just in case or a breeder net within the main tank (just make sure there's enough room for the fry and the adults can't get in).
