My lone resident (an ornery old purple tang) in my 55 gallon tank died on Thursday. First question, to restock, do I need to cycle again? I have left filters etc running. Second question: I want to make this a more aggressive tank. I know I want a huma huma trigger. I want one other fish. Would a panther grouper go well? How about a marine betta? Please let me know your thoughts

No, you do not have to recycle again. The bacteria is still there even thought there are no fish. If you have plans on upgrading to at least a 125 in the future you could do a Panther Grouper. They do get very large. I would not put a Marine Betta with a Trigger because the Trigger will nip the fins. When a Huma is full grown, he will be pushing the limits on a 55. They do produce a lot of waste, so the filter will need to work very well in order to combat their waste. If you wanted another fish I would go with something small. I have a 55 G with a 2 inch Tank Raised Huma Trigger and 5 Damsels. There is also a 3ft Zebra Moray Eel with them, but he is being moved to the 209 on Wed (his Christmas present :)). Hope this helps.
