View Full Version : Zebra Plecos
Does anyone know of anywhere to get one (or two depending on price) Zebra Plecos. I cant see myself spending over 50 each, nevermind the 100 each they go for on aquabid.

You'll be hard pressed to find one for less than 50$. At least from what I've heard/gathered/seen.
Aquabid ofen has them, but as you said, they're expensive.
Also, do be aware taht they are not as herbivorous as other plecos - zebras like a meatier diet:)

I believe that there are a couple black and white striped pleco species.
Fortunately there's one store near where I live that sells a pair for $40. The only reason I didn't buy them is because apparently 75% of all adult zebra pl*cos are infertile - they are not interested in breeding at all.
I have yet to see any juv. zebra pl*cos. I'll try my luck in the local aquarium society auctions to see if anyone has successfully bred this guys....
I already asked the owner of lovely pets about a week ago, he hasnt had any in his store in 2 years
Oh well, maybe someday

it was black and white - 2nd aisle of tropical tanks tank near the african cichlids but on the bottom it's got small albino coies in it the tank to the left of it is small (15 g) or so had kissing gourami or sword tails in it - the tank is long sometimes has loaches in it - it was the only pleco in the tank that looked like this so maybe he sold it but it wasn't a candy plec - it was very nice looking

It could also be a King Tiger (L066 I believe, may be wrong) or the Queen Arbasque. Those are some other cheaper Zebra look alikes.

I saw my first Zebra Plec in real life last night. I've only seen them in pics before. Man, they are incredible looking fish, the pics just don't do them justice.
I'm visiting the Columbus, Ohio, area this week and found a store called Aquarium Adventure. Great prices on aquariums and stands, reasonable on food and filters, etc., but their fish are expensive. They only had one Zebra and the price tag was $199. My jaw about hit the floor. Can't believe anybody would charge that much, let alone pay that much, for that fish. I mean, I love them as much as anyone, but good grief......
Oh well, if money were no object!

Right now is their off season but give it a couple of weeks and price should be more reasonable, but 199 is WAY WAY over priced. They sell around here on average for 60-70 bucks. Anyway, hope this helps and good luck.

Isn't the pattern of a zebra pleco different from any other? I know there are black and whites out there but com'on, they don't look anything thing like a zebra unless one isn't familiar with what they look like
