45 gallon, deep, planted ecocomplete and driftwood, 3 skirted tetra.

ammonia 0-.25ppm nitrite .25 nitrate between 5 and 10ppm.

Seem on track, no water changes to date. Should I continue to leave, it perhaps add a couple more tetras?

I would do a water change and lower the ammonia and nitrite to undetectable. Are you using a liquid test kit?

What are the same readings on your tap water?

I'll do a water change, but really, I'm not sure if I'm showing ammonia or just willing the test a bit "greener" wanting some to appear for cycling reasons.

First time I showed any nitrite or nitrate... I'm confused though, don't you want a minimal amount of ammonia and nitrite to develop nitrate? I'll change out water today/tomorrow if folks think I should. 25% change or go for 50% right off of the bat?

Definitely nix any ideas of adding more fish, due to the fact that you're still cycling.

The bacteria only need to be able to cope with the amount of ammonia produced by the aquatic life as it is being produced.

Even if you can't detect it on your tests (assuming they are hobbyist tests and not the super accurate laboratory detects any trace of ammonia machines) there will be trace amounts of ammonia in your water even in a cycled tank because although the bacteria are constantly converting ammonia, the fish are constantly producing it so there will always be trace amounts of ammonia that has not yet gotten converted.

These undetectable trace amounts are not high enough to harm fish but the amount you are showing is.

So if your tests show any ammonia/nitrite do a water change, it will not hurt the cycle.

I would do the water change today.
