1. no need to warm up your car, just drive off slowly keeping rpms around 2000, warms up car faster & doesn't cause risk of damage to catalytic converter when idling warming up & saves gas (especially at $3/gal!)

2. don't let hair or other solids go down your kitchen/bathroom/bathtub/shower drain, avoids clogs & the cost of calling in a plumber or roto-rooter. use a good strainer/hair catcher (forget about how it doesn't look good or doesn't match your faucet treatments). also using drain cleaners can cause damage to your pipes.

3. if having trouble drest feeding & producing milk, use fennel oil. mix with massage oil, rub in drest area, in a few days you will be producing much more.

4. stop smoking! every day you refrain from smoking can extend your life expectancy & reduce the risk of suffering for you & your family. also don't smoke in the presence of babies & children or while pregnant. save $ while at it!

5. eat more veggies, fruits, salads (up to double/triple your portions) & slice & dice & at the end not beginning of your meal, to cleanse your colon/intestinal regions. instead of plain or lightly salted, can add sauces, flavorings, any favorite dressings, mix in pastas, soups, rice, etc. be creative.
allows for much easier pottying, especially among kids (we had 2 incidents where the bowels were so stuck had to go to emergency room)

6. to lose weight without exercising (tho it's recommended) or expensive diet plans or surgeries, besides following #5, reduce or eliminate intake of sodas/soda pop/pop but don't substitute diet drinks (juices ok though also high in sugar better to mix fruit juices with ice cold water, I drink lots of flavored teas also), reduce or eliminate drinking beer, reduce or eliminate eating fast foods/chips/junk foods (ice cream is ok).

I lost 20lbs (182 to 162) since last august still eating a ton of food (love my rice) & without working out, but occasionally still drink soda/eat chips. but still eating my steaks/pork/chicken/pastas/rice at beginning of meal & then follow up with #5. in one week refraining from drinking soda/beer for one full week I lost 6lbs! now I fluctuate between 15-20lbs shooting for 25-30lbs.

7. save by not letting water run while brushing up or washing dishes (if no dishwasher). while brushing use when ready to rinse mouth out. while washing dishes rinse/scrub off all dishes of food stuff/sauces then turn water off. then soap up green/yellow scrubbies then wash/soap dishes/pots/pans clean then rinse.

8. if have tendency to fall asleep while watching tv, especially if you have a plasma flat screen, use the timer feature. cuz it burns up a lot of electricity!

9. in winter, keep thermostat at 67-68 & wear extra layers while awake or going to sleep. in summer keep thermostat at 78 or so & use fans (ceiling fans are optimal). saves on gas & electric

10. use wolf urine deer repellent & spray around your edible greenery, if you have had no success in the past

11. go hands free with your cell fone while driving (blue tooth, headfones, connect to speaker adaptor, etc.) b4 you get into an accident or get a ticket. never too late to do so.

12. don't text & drive, that split second you miss while driving can be tragic - for you and/or your love ones/passengers

so what say you?

13. parents - don't yell at your kids for not understanding how to do their HW - but don't give them the answer either. help them lead them coax them to get to the right answer, showing them some examples, like leading a horse to water...

14. kids - don't fight with your parents when we try to give you parental advice. take if for what it's worth, if you choose to ignore us or rebel against us, & something turns out bad, we parents hate to say I told you so. we rather you learn from our mistakes so you don't make them!

Rule 1 has to be the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

1st off in winter it wouldn't defrost my windshield by the time I got out of the driveway.

2ndly if someone is driving that slow on any road around here they will get driven over or cause a wreck.

Warm up your car and save a life, it could be yours.

My non aquatic advise is :

Find someone with a ton of money, fake love for them for a few years, set them up for an affair and leave with a pocket full of money.

o Ya mean all this time this is the stupidest you've ever heard?! my my, you've lived a sheltered life!

1st off in winter 'it wouldn't defrost my windshield by the time I got out of the driveway.
o ya means your windshield always has frost in the winter? amazing!

2ndly if someone is driving that slow on any road around here they will get driven over or cause a wreck.
o ya knows, one can drive up to 45mph in a 30mph speed zone under 2000 rpms, geez never thought driving the speed limit would cause a wreck. does it in your neck of the woods?

Warm up your car and save a life, it could be yours.
o many do & many don't. matter of choice. just saying that it's not necessary to warm up your car.

My non aquatic advise is :

Find someone with a ton of money, fake love for them for a few years, set them up for an affair and leave with a pocket full of money.

use anti-deer urine to keep them from esting your plants/leaves/flowers

ladybug infestation, place nylon stocking at end of vacuum tube, tie rubber band to secure it, then vacuum them up, take sac & either throw them out or release them in your garden where they can do more good than harm, also can use orthos home defense

for ants, spread oatmeal, boric acid, talcum powder in their paths/anthill, if they ingest can't digest they dry up n die.

For an easy and chemical free way to clean your microwave, put water in a microwave safe cup and set the timer on high for @ 3-4 min. The water will evaporate loosening up all the stuff splattered inside( if you don't cover your food with wax paper), wipe clean, repeat if necessary. Your microwave won't smell like chemicals either( or your food).

For streak free mirrors, use newspaper to wipe glass after you spray window cleaner on it. Also makes it easier to clean off toothpaste marks since newspaper has wood fibers that act as an abrasive.

added to fish n chips/madcrawdad

cover your foods when microwaving, whether with wax paperrubber band tight or in microwavable plastic ware/corning ware so you don't have any splattering in the 1st place! people at work are so inconsiderate. at home g/ma likes using the plastic microwave cover to cover dishes but still splatters I tell her!

as for ice cubes, pour a small mix of fruit juice & water in your cup or re-usable bottle & place in freezer for use later. I drink lots of water these days & having flavored ice cubes does it for me!

favorites juices to mix with water are tropicana's orchard peach or minute maid's lime ade & with a splash of cranberry or grape juice! now that's refreshing!

for better digestion for all ages, easier eating for kids - slice n dice all your veggies, shred your lettuces like they do at subways/blimpies, add your favorite seasonings/sauces/dressings, goes long way in clearing out your digestive system! also for kids cut meats into bite size so they can digest better & helps prevent constipation.

don't drink n drive... please!

don't smoke in presence of kids or pregnant women

wash your hair b4 going to sleep after going to the barbers

don't eat tuna fish sandwiches or anything full of garlic for lunch if u still have to deal with people, your breath stinks!

floss every nite! u'd be surprised what lingers in there. reduces bacterial activity & chance of gum disease or bleeding gums + in long run u will have healthier teeth & gums, seriously...

if u tend to have bad breath during the day, chew gum (breath mints don't cut it tho it helps for just a few min.) chewing gum helps remove food remnants (peppermint, spearmint, any of those ice eclipse stridegums) & helps keeps your breath smelling refresher...

Prevent your bathroom mirrors from fogging up by rubbing plain ol' shaving foam onto them as you would windex. It won't leave white residue and you won't even be able to tell its there. In a week or so or whenever you see your mirror starting to fog up again just clean the mirror and repeat the process.

And oh yea...Don't cross the road without looking both ways.

Some real life advice from a pharmacist:

Always unwrap suppositories before insertion.

More is not better in terms of medication. More can kill you.

Do not leave your suppositories in your car if you live in ATL in the middle of August...they are designed to melt at body temperature. Do not expect a refund for said suppositories when you do something this stupid as I will laugh at you.

Oral medications should be given by mouth. That amoxicillin liquid you got for your kid's ear infection does NOT go in the ear.

suppositories/ear meds - not surprising people don't know how to administer!

dr oz bloody nose tip - DON'T hold your head back - blood will just go down your throat. bend your head slightly forward, then either 1. pinch your nose above nostrils below nose bone/deviate septum or better yet 2. place your finger under your lip inside your mouth towards your nose & press the upper gums (there's the gum connector dead center), this apparently will stop the blood flow that goes to the nose

while driving, coast downhill, don't keep accelerating to red light/stop sign - instead ease up & coast, don't accelerate to run a red/yellow light (accidents can happen & can get a ticket), do accelerate before going up a hill - develop enough speed before a hill so you don't have to depress accelerator harder to maintain or not lose speed.

I totally agree! :werd:Rule #1 does not work in Canada, in the dead of winter at -45 degrees (yep, thats 45 below !), cars don't even MOVE unless they have been warmed up for a while. Not to mention, I don't want frostbite waiting for it to warm up! I have to let mine warm up for ussually 20 minutes before it goes anywhere in January/February..

Also.. driving that slow DOES cause wrecks, and you can and will get ticketed by police for being a road hazard. Be smart, warm up the car!!!

My advice:

guess there will always be exceptions & difference of opinions/experience - you canadians being the mass exceptions - 20min? please! you must have some clunker or is it an american brand? during cold snaps in the chillest freezin of weather in vermont I had to put a blanket on the engine block so it would start in the morning. so agree there are exceptions. :iagree:

but please! driving slow does not cause wrecks, if it does then it's the other drivers who are the cause. a little ole grandma driving 10-20mph below the speed limit you telling me causes wrecks? how pray tell? :footinmouth:

I think while driving in 30-40mph speed limit zone I surmise is not slow at all, which is what I drive at, at the speed limit while warming up the car driving. :screwy:

Nope, I have a nice car in great shape... but.. did I mention it gets to be -45 below here? Also, that does not include windchill, which this past winter got down to -70 to 80 below a few times. I DO have the misfortune of having a parking space right in a kind of wind tunnel, but I would say in central Canada, 20 minute warm-up time is completely normal!! of course, it's also normal for cars to just not start at all.. in January, calling AMA for starter issues can be a 3 day wait because they have soo many people waiting due to the cold!

but please! driving slow does not cause wrecks, if it does then it's the other drivers who are the cause. a little ole grandma driving 10-20mph below the speed limit you telling me causes wrecks? how pray tell? :footinmouth:

Well, I have seen it happen, numersous times. For example, lets say someone going the speed limit of 50km rounds a bend and comes up behind someone going 30km. The person driving 50 tries slowing down in time or stopping, but due to the ice, the 50km guy crashes into the Grandma driver, or worse, swerve and end up hitting another car or oncoming traffic. That is not the fault of the driver who was going the speed limit, as they were not doing anything wrong. So how to stop this? Lower the speed limit so everyone drives slow? I've seen semi-truck wrecks because of things like this.. sometimes in winter it is hard to stop in time due to icy roads, and sometime hard to see due to blowing snow, white-outs, etc.. :(

For another, when you are hitting, say, a giant snow bank or deep snow in an intersection, slowing down just increases your chances of getting stuck.. maybe it's just a Canadian thing, but most driver here kow the best way to deal with a big pile of snow is to speed up a bit to clear it!.

I took a safe driving course a few years back, and that was one of the things we were told - don't drive TOO slow, it is a hazard. I have also had a friend who DID get pulled over and ticketed for driving 20 in a 50 zone.

Of course, I am TOTALLY not saying don't be a cautious driver.. I mean, I ussually never get much above 40-45 in a 50 zone in winter, just because winter driving is scary. :22_yikes: A little slow is safe, a lot slow is hazardous.

so don't follow rule #1, to each their own. :bowing:

Of course, I am TOTALLY not saying don't be a cautious driver.. I mean, I ussually never get much above 40-45 in a 50 zone in winter, just because winter driving is scary. :22_yikes: A little slow is safe, a lot slow is hazardous.

HAH.. this is kinda my motto in life. There are always exceptions and different circumstances.

To each their own for sure!!

:headbang2:

this is not a criticism or personal attack on you. but gee, I would think we all would think driving slower when road conditions are hazardous makes more sense (espec. as you mention icy or snowy road conditions sometimes in winter it is hard to stop in time due to icy roads, and "sometime hard to see due to blowing snow, white-outs, etc.." ) & driving around a bend/curve at the speed limit not allowing you much time to react/apply brakes in time to avoid such collisions.

truckers are a breed in themselves when it comes to driving. they are speed demons, impatient, a bit reckless, disrespectful, etc. but if they are on a job/delivery I can see they need to make time, but still no excuse for them to tailgate espec. when they have even less time to react even in good road conditions!

it can't be a canadian thing, I'm sure many americans drive similarly.

I would still profess to driving slower than the speed limit when roads/weather are not so good.

but as far as my tip on warming up a car by driving off, I can get to the speed limit on my road (30-40mph) fairly quickly still keep rpms at 2000 & takes a min. or so in winter cold (not as ice box frigid cold in your parts of Canada) to warm up while driving, then I get to go the speed limit if not higher.

ever hear that song by the Tramps "it only takes a minute girl..."

it's only a minute or so of driving a bit slower. but I never stated to drive at a turtle's pace.

& agreed I have heard people ticketed for driving way too slow. I in fact was pulled over but not ticketed for driving slow. told officer I was very tired so didn't dare risk driving faster.

anyway, as your motto goes so goes mine 'to each their own" or "left to your own devices"

be safe I always say tho, to you & to all our friends.

If your on a dirt road drive faster then slower, it will make it less bumpy! You just hop over the bumps.

Also, of you in a car and the brakes stop working, and there's a river in front of you, speed up and look for a ramp, you can glide over the water! (dont try this at home):)

If you have a problem with birds eating your prized pond fish, just buy couple dozen sunfish, they will get stuck in the birds mouths.

If you have a troublesome cat just rig you pond so that when the cat goes after the fish the sprinklers go on, that cat will never bother you again!

When finding a lost cat, just shake its favorite treats!

If your dog gets away and keeps running from you, stop chasing it and see if it will follow you home. They usually think its all just a big fun game!

Ha ha ha. I am serious though, you do hop over about 50% of the bumps when driving quickly over a dirt road. Mythbusters proved it!

always pay your bills first, then buy the toys.

when you buy/open a package of toilet paper, tuck one roll in a different place than the others, so that when the package runs out, it's the middle of the night, the store's not open...... you can say 'aha!'

when dealing with coin operated laundry machines, hang as much laundry as possible to dry = saved money.

purge your closets once a year. sell it, donate it, whatever. extra stuff is just that, extra, taking up space and you don't need it.

use one of those sweater lint remover battery operated thingies to get the pilled fabric off your couch.

if you are a single parent - never introduce casual relationships (we all know what i'm talking about here folks) to your kids. children do not need 'uncle daddies'.

near end of month quota time - don't run red lights, stop signs, make sure inspection/registration/insurance are renewed

wear seatbelts - how can it be bad?

don't text & drive - don't care how good a driver u are - any time your eyes not on the road u can/will get into an accident or u will cause someone else to get into an accident

don't drink & drive - don't drug & drive - obvious?!

if u need to use a cell fone while driving, either have hands free earphones or speaker - also prevents distractions/accidents & maybe from getting a ticket!

brush your hair often & clean/shampoo at least every other day, especially girls. as you grow older, your hair will stay healthier longer. stay away from perms which burns your hair to get that wave! also frequent brushing rids dead hair stimulates hair growth & your hair won't be all over the house!

men should also brush often espec. young men, to minimize hair loss as you get older & male pattern baldness. men should wash hair daily, minimize gel use as this clogs hair follicles.

as I have aged my hair has grown more gray. but due to my brushing since my younger days I can say I have more gray hair than some men have hair!

hey! it can't hurt to brush often. but if you don't I g'tee you will lose more hair as you age!

instead of throwing the crumbs away in your bag of chips/doritos/nacho chips, use them as soup croutons. or make a vegetarian sandwich: take crushed doritos/nacho chips (my fav is sweet chile flavored) place crumbs on hero/roll, place slice of cheese on it, put in toaster oven to melt, then add shredded lettuce onions peppers sweet pickles hot banana peppers tomatoes - place other bread over it, cut in 1/3's, eat! delish! just like when we were younger we/I use to put bbq chips on my sandwich!

if you can't floss during the day (espec. at work or school, chew sugar-less gum, next best thing!
but be sure to floss at nite! you will be surprised/grossed out at how much comes out! even more gross if you haven't done so in awhile & the stuck foods, espec. meats in your teeth/molars starts to decompose!! also, you will notice your gum will bleed if you haven't floss in a while, sure signs things are not good in your mouth!

hey, this is only good for ya!

don't feed your dog spare rib bones thinking it was good for their teeth. yeah, they were able to chew it up good. apparently, they weren't good for the teeth cause over the years it wore her teeth down.

definitely no chicken bones as they are too sharp when cut or chewed on, but the little chicken wing tips are good cuz the bones are so soft & dogs love this as a treat (cooked of course).

add real liver, salmon/fish (be careful of any bones), chicken, steak, pork pieces, any kind of meats to your dog's dry food, they will relish the extra treat! also cut up carrots, broccoli & rice mixed in with dry food also helps.

seedless grapes, hot dog pieces, baby carrots also were great training treats for our dog.

use screened windows when summer mornings are cool & breezy, use ceiling fans. use window shades/blinds to keep out hot sunrays

wear extra layers/sweaters during cold winter days/nites so you can lower the heating temps, comforters, pj's with the feeties, a nice hot fireplace...
