Blue Gourami Bloated

Hello All,

I think my Gourami has Dropsy as he is extremely bloated. His scales are not popping out, he is not eating, but does appear to be moving around as normal. He is in a QT tank at the moment. A friend said I should treat with "Clout" tablets for five days. I am concerned because the package says to only apply one treatment. Has anyone used this stuff, or can anyone recommend something better?

Clout is a treatment for parasites (i.e. intestinal worms in this case). If this is the problem, then Clout will work. Otherwise I recommend trying to put in some bits of cooked peas to help loosen things up a bit. Make sure your water quality is good as well.
Also, what do you feed your gourami. Sometimes the freeze-dried foods can cause things to plug up as they rehydrate and expand in the fish's stomach.
 
I feed it a combination of flake, lettuce, and an occasional treat of frozen blood worms. I noticed a few days ago, a white thread like substance coming out of its hind end. This substance has continued and has progressed into a green string, nasty lol.. I tried feeding him cooked peas, but he wont eat anything and it has been several days... Any tips on getting him to eat?
 
Well the gourami is still not eating, but he is much more active today after two days of Clout treatments. His scales are still looking fine, but he is still bloated. I am hoping he will pull through... I have heard that treating with salt may help them to expel waste, is this true?

This sounds right, I just lost a male Dwarf Gourami and a male Blue Gourami after feeding dried worms. Sounded just like yours, bloated but not pine coned. I soak my freeze dried foods now before serving....

White, thread-like, poop is usually an indicator of internal parasites. I would treat with an internal parasite treatment.
