I don't know how it happened but I've discovered a chip in the glass right on the corner edge of my 40 gallon breeder.

I'm hoping for advice on the safety of this tank. I'm worried that this chip may become a crack and is a disaster waiting to happen.

Here are some photos. I hope these will help with the analysis. If you tank experts think the tank is in danger I will go ahead and replace it.

Thanks for your input on this.

I've got chips in 2 tanks that 4 of those little chips you have would fit in. You might even squeeze a smart car into one of them it's so big! I would keep an eye out but feel you have nothing to worry about.

:iagree:

It's something to keep an eye on, but no need to panic atm.

I agree. I think both my glass tanks that I'm running have little knicks that that, and the one has a fairly large clamshell chip near the top. The one has been up and running (oh and has cracks all over the bracing/trim) for over a year, and the one with the clamshell chip has been up for nearly 2 years. Just keep an eye on it. There's always a chance it could spread, but those little chips are usually nothing to worry about.

my 55 had chips similar to that.. it's been running for a few years.. I almost forgot it has chips.

you can do like me.. keep an eye on it till you foreget about it.

;)

Thanks guys for the help... I feel much better now. I really appreciate it.

i found a ten gal with a bunch of chips like that and even a few cracks. Filled in the cracks with silicone (didnt care about looks, its an extra tank). Works as good as new no leaking or anything
