So my friend contacted me yesterday and let me know that her betta fish, 2 years old, has popeye. She has tried mayacn already (spelling might be off) but it is not working. She said he also is not eating much very well. I will have pics up sometime this week so i would like any ideas from anyone who has dealt with such a problem before

hi daphnia got same probelm my felmale betta has popeye in 1 eye wasnt eating and trethiding all time so i put betta breeding net got interpet anti internal bacteria 2 dose treament 12 days ago now popeye swelling going down now still in breeding net but geting better ever day 1st time i used it. hope this helps .is it in 1 eye or 2
I would also do daily huge water changes, then dose with whatever meds you use. The medications are available in the water column for several hours after dosing and then lose their efficacy, so big water changes every 24 hours won't interfere with most treatment regimes.
Be sure to remid your friend to use temperature matched water that has been dechlorinated and has had chloramine removed as well.
Prime water conditioner is a really good one that helps with ammonia and nitrite toxicity.
Pristine water conditions are very important, and often popeye is a result of water quality issues. I hope things get better for your friend's Betta.
