Finially got the 55 gallon tank and stand repainted and got the right depth of soil in the tank last night and left it to air out over night and touch up the top rim. Go out to look at the tank this morning and both cats had used it as a litter box...:mad2::swear: Took me 3 hours to sift through enough soil to get the right depth and having to mess with the baby and trying to get the laundry done. So is the dirt completely screwed and I need to go through, clean everything and start over or would it still work? Part of the problem is that I don't have everything for the tank to be up and running yet. I was going to do a dry start method with a bit of java moss and some hc, when I was able to buy it, and let it sit for a few weeks covered and let the soil settle before filling up fully. The tank was sitting on the floor for the night and so I could touch up the rim of the tank before setting it on the stand. I didn't think they would bother it sitting up. This is just potting soil too, I hadn't started adding anything any gravel or sand to the tank.
