my friends is having a problem with his fish so i thought i would post on here and see if anyone can help. ok he told me his fish have a white film all over there body. some of them have all ready died. does anyone know what disease this might be and how to treat it. thanks for the help

Sounds like... something bad. Fungus, probably.
I'd advise him to IMMEDIATELY do a 80% water change and treat the water with Jungle Ich Treatment II (it'll kill almost anything-- besides your fish). Do you know the water parameters? Species?

he said he thought it might be some kind of fungus. he has cichlids the water parameters i do not know.

Without diagnose, I would not perform massive water change nor treatments.
If possible, have your friend provide pics and water parameters.
If water changes may be needed, do so in small volume but more often.

I thank you for jumping in, I do not know a whole lot about diseases (this is why I gave the disease charts link), but realized jumping to conclusions as has been done, is not the correct course.
