I went to a local lfs today and bought a few things, when I got home, upon further inspection I found a dozen or so little hitchhikers! I know they are snails because they have shells that I can see..I just don't know what kind! They don't have round shells, but more pointy spirly looking ones. Can anyone tell me what they may be and what I should do with them? I don't mind having a few snails but not a dozen!
They are still in the bag with water because I didn't want to put them in without knowing what they were first

I'm guessing that they're just common pond snails.

Malaysian Trumpet Snails most likely if the shell is like a pointy cone. AKA Malaysian Livebearing Snail since they give birth to live young. They aren't harmful, and you won't even see them that much since they spend most of their time in the gravel bed. Personally I like them, and introduced them purposefully, but you will certainly end up with more than a dozen.

Perhaps malaysian trumpets? Good snail to have in the aquarium, only give birth to one live baby at a time, anyways google malaysian trumpets and see if thats what they are

That's exactly what they are! =] I dropped them in, split them half and half between both of my tanks. They look kinda cute

way more likely they are common pond snails though...I would think even an LFS would keep better track of their stock than to give away Malasians as hitchhikers.

Up to you whether to keep the ones you can see, but you are almost guaranteed to get them whether or no. They have by now laid eggs in the plants themselves which will hatch in short order. I got mine on a mailorder from liveaquaria.com and let them stay, which I now regret. The common advice is "don't overfeed them and they won't take over your tank" but it is almost impossible to follow. They eat absolutely anything.

The most you can do is squish as many as you can see when they to be more than you can stand. If you hunt down and kill every last one...you will only have to do it again in a couple of weeks....and again a couple of weeks after that...until the end of time. :)

update: or maybe not. Hope you got lucky this time. :)

Do common pond snails have spiral shells that go down to a point? Ah well...either way I believe the damage has been done. I added the lil suckers and couldn't find them in the rocks after, they blend in too good.

Hope I get lucky too lol...
