When I woke up to take my gf to school monday, we saw a neighborhood stray cat outside in our driveway. She hasn't been spotted for 4days, she used to come around and I would feed her some of my inside cat's food, but she always came around at least once a day. Always nice healthy purring and what not.

Monday though she was nothing but skin and bones and had some gluey substance all over her stomach and legs. Turns out the "glue" was an infected puss that was leaking from her two wounds she suffered. The vet said that she most likely got attacked and hide for the past few days and came to me for help. I rushed her to the Novi Animal hospital where they gave her saline fluids and anitbiotics, treated the wounds and some pain meds. They also shaved alot of her hair in some spots and bathed her.

Dr. Novi(awesome vet!) informed that the cat had two very serious wounds, and was showing signs of jaundice and possible liver/kidney problems. They did some blood worked that showed some other possible problems as well. She asked that I take the cat in as my own since I was paying the bill. Soo.. in short I have a new inside cat named Panther, shes very sweet but is still very feral. I gave her fluids this morning and about an hr ago via an 18gauge needle and saline bag, I was given a crash course at the vets office lol.

She finally ate some wet food today and drank some water. Still has not regained enough energy to purr but meows at me. She is leaking stuff all over my man room which I have been taking care of with wet wipes but all the signs of jaundice has gone and the puss is slowly clearing up, with only a slight ting of yellow. Her urine has gone from orange(at the vet) to yellowish, so the fluids are helping. Shes not out of danger though until she clears her infection, but is getting antibiotics twice a day. She has gone from half dead to looking like she's going to be ok. It had me to tears driving her to the vet seeing her covered barely being able to utter a meow.

The folks at Novi Animal hospital were so nice and helped me out so much. I don't have much money to go around as it is but I can't live with myself if I didn't do something. They found some antibiotics around their center and some appetite enhancer, free of charge. So I paid everything else out of pocket, but they said when she picked up that they would spade her for free.

I didn't plan on having a second house cat, a feral one at that but she hasn't attacked me yet lol. Pics show the wounds and her sweet side I think she will be a great cat, I really love her to death all ready. She is such a fighter. I have another appt. on Thursday to ck blood work again and ck the wounds. They said it's best to let it drain and not stitch it up, being that it's so inflamed and infected.

Wish me and panther luck everyone!

p.s. she loves my man room and all the fish tanks!

By the looks of her I don't think she is feral, just abandoned. You have done a good thing. Be proud of yourself for having the love and strength to help a beautiful, needy cat.

Just going to say the same, if you can pet her then she is not feral, just a stray. True feral cats grow up outdoors without human companionship and they never tame completely if rescued as an adult. Only if you rescue a feral kitten under 8 weeks can you tame them completely. This is my experience from fostering and veterinary work.
Anyhow, great for you and I hope she turns out to be a nice pet.

thanks all I guess I say feral because she eats squirrels, rats, birds all the time and drops them on at my bad door. It took a long time when I first saw her for her to let me come near her. She once brought my gf a decapitated squirrel body =/

Wow, that is actually a really nice compliment coming from a cat. If they bring you dead animals, that means they consider you a part of their family.

Ahhh... then she truely loves you... you get to receive her "prizes". She is showing off her hunting prowness and giving you her catch. This is high praise from a cat. LOL It's really hard to say thank you and good kitty when all you want to do is throw up at the site of your new "gift". LOL

From the look of your pictures, she is not feral. You handle her. You can pet her. She is shy and leery. Most dump offs are. Is she giving you the head bumps yet? :)

Congrats on your new kitty! And thanks from a fellow rescuer for taking her in and taking on the responsibility! My vet cuts me a break when I bring in a hardship case... and most of my critter kids are. :) They come, they stay.

wow thanks for the comments all. I'm so happy she actually can purring (softly) this morning. She could not tolerate the needle any longer so I didn't give her any fluids but she has been drinking lots of water on her own. She also has been eating like a pig! so I'm really happy she has made a turn for the better over night with a lot more energy this morning. Taking her back to the vet tomorrow morning hopefully her blood work shows improvement also. She might actually eat 2 little cans of food today. She is fighting hard now against taking her pills but I know that it's something she has to have.

Beautiful cat. I was almost afraid to open the thread from the title, but it looks like the kitty is on the mend. I'm glad she 'adopted' you! :)

Update so far from the vet, the shoulder wound looks like it will clear fine. The wound on her inside of her leg still has a good amount of "dead space" they called it. They may have to do some surgery to close it up. I'm not too sure what that involves. Her blood work on Thursday came back fine so shes out danger for the most part.

She is a great cat so far.. meows in the middle of the night but other than that is still kind of nervous(jumpy) around me. She always wants me to pet her and is very clam surprisingly. She just hangs out in her spot on the ground. When she is healed up some more I will let introduce her to my inside cat and let her wander the house. She's also on dry food now =). She gained almost a pound in 3days! woot!

If you are still having trouble with her pills, you can probably crush them up and put them in some good wet food, the stinkier, the better.
Remember that resuced cats can get fat very quickly :) Don't forget to deworm her and give her flea treatment for both her and your other cat if they have come into contact.

I'm pretty good at making her take her medicine so far, even thought he pills are pretty big. My inside cat doesn't have fleas and neither should panther being that she was treated at the vet. But I've used advantage in the past and it works like magic.

Yes, advantage would take care of the fleas, but being that she was eating rodents, there is very high risk of her having a multitude of parasites. You can get dewormer for her at the petstore. You want to get 2 different kinds, 1 for roundworms and hookworms, and another specifically for tapeworms. You might want to wait until she is a bit stronger though.
I don't want to go into detail about what I've ended up catching from fostering strays for so many years, but you should know it's not pleasant.

This is an uplifting thread...I expected something a little more morbid from the title. Be sure to post updates as she gets better (and fatter!)
