Guys what am i going to do,
I have three spare tanks, but really at 8 euro each( thats the standard price.. plus 4 of each to make sure i get males and females, 5 diffent kinds,,,,wow... 160 euro..
Thats 20 fish to grow out....
Wow.....heads spinning, the post was up 4 days now...Hope they have them left.
What would u go for.
Longfins are really what i want so they prob will they breed together maybe yes no..

will i buy6 longfins and 2 of each of the others, which longfin, oh my head hurts

Guys what would u do

Please.. Pretty please

I'd recommend getting a trio of the longfins if they're sexable, or a group of 5-6 if not. The longfins breed just as easily as the regular fins, but sell for a better price. A breeding trio (1m/2f) will certainly fill your 3 spare tanks with fry as you grow them out. The "orange longfin" are probably calico, the reds from Germany haven't been bred as longfins yet.
If you can afford to get a group of the L-10a they'll mix well enough with the BN. The fry need a little more attention than BN fry (separate tank, microworms or decapped brine shrimp eggs) but once they're past the first month they're just as hardy. Both BN and L10a fry fast-growing little buggers, unlike the L-144 "lemon". They'll reach spawning size in about 8-9 months rather than a couple years.

:iagree:

You have to be careful of labels put on ancistrus. Here in the states I've seen the L144 Lemon ancustrus label on a common brown bristlenose...go figure that out! The L144's are a yellow ancistrus with blue/black eyes. I don't think there really is such a thing as a lemon or a gold or an orange. So you need to go look at the fish to see what he really has for sale. I would go with long fins as well and the most uncommon ancistrus of the bunch. Go to the store with your camera and take some pictures of them for us!

Not sure what you're saying here Todd.....yes, true L144's are the slowest growing ancistrus on earth! But are you also saying they won't reach spawning size for a couple of years? If so, that is not true.

I meant that buying juvies, then raising their resulting fry to spawning/sexable size would take much longer with L-144's than the regular BN. The one I had seemed like it barely grew, while the BN were twice its size in a few months.

Yup, they are a bit of a challenge and more delicate when compared to breeding other ancistrus.

Hi guys , i got three of each as they were really small, looked like they were about 2 weeks old. no kidding, i have them now are will grow them out.. They got 600 ancistrus in but they were not in great condition and they were constantly fighting with each other taking bites, lots of the albinos were red marked.
I felt sorry for the fish, and they were dear fish for the size..
Will see how they develop

Given clean water and good food they should be fine. Are they really that small? I don't move my fry to other tanks until they're at least 1" (2.5cm), certainly don't sell them any smaller. Even in the 30L breeding tank there's no conflict among the fry. I usually have well over 100 small ones in there at any given time, working their way to the 1" mark...

I've never had conflict with fry of any size or adults for that matter. That is really strange. Hopefully it's not the signs of illness in fish which I'm thinking it might be. Post pics when you can,.
