I have an 80 gallon bowfront. It's 48" x 18" x 24" and houses mbuna. On the tank I have 2 canister filters with one at each end. One is a eheim 2217 and the other is a eheim 2028. The tank is well filterd but since it is so tall I worry about stuff getting caught in the rocks. When you look at the sand you don't see much poop at all. I worry it's all caught up in the rocks.
Can I get some sort of power head and direct it towards the rocks to blow the poo out? Can I do this without disturbing the sand? What kind would you suggest?

You could use a koralia powerhead and just direct it wherever you want.

Which one should I get?

depend how much flow you want.
the koralias move water very well

I use 4's in my 110 marine tank and should have bought bigger
but in marine tanks more flow is better.

Well I just want enough to flush out my rocks so the filters can get the crud.

KORALIA 1 400 gph
KORALIA 2 600 gph
KORALIA 3 850 gph
KORALIA 4 1200 gph

this is the flow rates for them

it is pretty close to real flow since there is nothing restricting the flow.

as you can see the 1 is equal(or more) than flow from cannister filters

proper placement helps. they will stir the water well

I would probably do two K2s. It will take a bit of fiddling but you should be able to get some decent flow through the rocks without disturbing the sand bed.

Thanks for the advice. I'll keep my eyes open for a good deal on a couple.

Blue2fyre - what did you end up doing? I just bought 3 Koralia Nanos (240 gph for $14.99 from Drs F&S - ends tomorrow), and have put 1 so far into my 55g for just the reason you described, although I have gravel and not sand. I'm tired of taking apart the rockwork and rebuilding it every week.

I haven't gotten anything yet.

I've been looking for some used equipment in my area first.

+1. In my 40g, I run two Eheim 2236's and a Coralia 2. The Coralia is dead silent and creates nice current.

Oh thanks for mentioning the silent thing!

I forgot to mention that ANYTHING to do with this tank needs to be very quiet.
