I was considering getting the Ultimate CO2 System from aquariumplants.com (http://www.aquariumplants.com/product_p/pr4026.htm) for my 150 gallon tank. But at $379.99 base price, I decided to shop around some more.

Foster and Smith sells what appears to be a similar system for $386.99 (http://www.fosterandsmithaquatics.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=9933), but they also sell a "semi-automatic" system for only $116.99 (http://www.fosterandsmithaquatics.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=9935). From what I can tell, it's just like their $386 fully automatic system only with a wimpier diffuser and it uses a timer rather than a pH controller. Would this system be good for a 150g tank? Also, couldn't I just buy a pH controller off eBay to make this system fully automatic? I think I've seen them as low as around $80, so the total price is still far cheaper than the $386 system or the system from aquariumplants.com.

You really don't need a ph controller after you set everything and have everything running the way you want your not going to need it any more but if you have the cash sure its always nice to have it :). As for the systems you linked you will still have to buy a co2 tank so add another $115+. For a tank that size you will need a good reactor the Aqua Medic CO2 Reactor 1000 is good if you have a low flow filter not sure what kind of filter you have but I know for that size tank you have something powerful hehe. What you should look into is a needle wheel co2 reactor something like this http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/equipment/75891-needle-wheel-co2-diffusion-fractionating-impeller.html
Good luck.
