I was only in the store to pick up some dog biscuits, but I couldn't resist a female betta with such nice fins. She is going by the name of Pritti. I think she's telling me to clean the glass.

Interesting fins. The ventrals are unusually short, but I like it.

She looks a lot like one of the two I couldn't resist (see this thread (http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=224001&highlight=bettas%21)). My girl looked very pale/lavender in the store but colored up a lot at home. Not quite as blue as the photos appear, but colorful!
As for the short ventrals, mine has 'em, too. I think it might be damage, however, as one is shorter than the other. I'm hoping they will grow back nicely. If not, hey, she'll just have shorty fins!
Enjoy your pretty girl!

The most imortant thing is that she has a good temperament as she is in a sorority. But i didn;t even see any gill flaring, she seemed to fit right in.

On that note does anyone know of a book or website with a good diagram of betta external anatomy?
I know she is not impressive by show standards, but not bad for a shop mutt ;)

I just got a male betta from Wal-Mart today ... went for Avatar and ended up rescuing. He looked so sad. At first, I thought I'd give to someone else but now I want to keep him. I fell in love.
I know both sexes of bettas will fight with each other but you said you keep her in a sorority. What does that mean exactly?

Female bettas can be placed together if they have the right temperment. Some females will try fighting others get along just fine. Its the males that can never be around there own sex.

All three girls are getting on great. They all line up in the corner for breakfast.
