I purchased Astrea snails for my 55gal aquarium yesterday. After they were placed in the aquarium they moved around for a while and then moved to the top of the tank and have not moved much at all. I also purchased blue leg hermits at the same time. The hermits are doing great, eating everything available. Is it normal for snails to do this when first introduced?

Snails can store water in thier shells so they dont die when low tide happens, so they should be fine, and will eventually go back down (i had a turbo that liked to spend alot of time out of the water, but eventually went back down)

From what I've seen, it's normal for astreas (at least) to do that at any given time. I have quite a few that spend a lot of time near the water line. Nothing to worry about.

Mine go through cycles of activity and inactivity. Have a look at nighttime.
