It took all of 4 months for my tank to become crystal clear.

I cleaned filters, added an extra filter, added extra media, added biological bacteria, etc....

Nothing worked.....until now.

My co-worker gave me this stuff called "Accu-clear".

A 1/2 teaspoon in a 36 gallon tank. 1 hour later, my tank is soooo clear it looks as if it has no water in it.

Does anybody know what this stuff actually did to my tank?

It's suppose to clump up all the stuff too small for the filter to pick up. Then they are large enough to stick in the filter.

Isn’t Accuclear a pregnancy test?

Seriously, it’s probably like Jungle Products “Clear Water” – contains potassium permanganate. Most often used in goldfish/koi ponds.

I'm so surprised that no one mentioned this product here.

I'm in total shock.

i don't know how long that stuff lasts but you might have to use it continually.

I hope it doesn't work this way for you, but lots of folks find it's only a temporary cure... do let us know if that's not the case, though!

My friend just told me that he uses it regularly ( as maintenance).
Basically a 1/2 teaspoon a week in his 55 gallon keeps it crystal clear. Hasn't lost a fish in 2 years.

does water stability fluctuate with it?

I don't know exactly what I do right but my 90G tank is almost always clear, I use a eheim canister and drop in the Fluval's largest underwater filter. I remove all the fluval componants out of the filter and fill with good quality bulk carbon in a pantyhose and put some cotton on top, works great! Change every two weeks.

accu clear is a polymer?

it's just a clumping agent. it makes small particles stick together and become large enuf for the filter to catch them. be sure to clean your filter after using this, it will eventually break down and release all the junk back into the tank.

If you have to use something like that to keep you water clear, I'd suggest there are other issues that need to be dealt with. Chronic cloudiness suggests maintenance and/or filtration problems that need to be addressed.

I agree with you.

Of course, since I just added this stuff, it's too soon to tell whether or not I'll have a chronic problem.

Prior to adding the Accu-clear, I found what I believe was the major culprit.....

I have a Fluval 204 cannister filter. I NEVER CLEANED the hoses. The other day, I decided to take them off and run a long brush through them. Needless to say, what came out almost made my wife sick to her stomach. After cleaning the lines, I saw an immediate improvement in my water quality. I believe the accu-clear simply "finished the job".

At this time, my tank is 100% balanced. All readings are perfect. My Fluval is clean, and I've even added an Emperor 280 filter on the back.

Only time will tell at this point.

So if you add the accu-clear to your tank and the water turns blue does that mean your fish are pregnant? ;)

Thanks Joe,

I'm preparing for my mid-life crisis.

Harleys make too much noise.
