I know people have used end of wooden chopsticks as diffusers. Do you have to carve the chopstick so its thinner or do you just put it into the tubing? i am afraid it will blow up ... if i fit the whole piece of chopstick in

This type of DIY diffuser is temporary. Prepare for changing the stick every week.

Yeast CO2 concoction cause a white buildup on everything the CO2 comes into contact with. This means bad things for the small surface area of the chopstick in the air line tubing.

If you have a 2nd bottle partially filled with water & run the line from your yeast bottle down under the water in the 2nd bottle with a second tube from above the water to your tank, the water will remove the yeast spores & there is no residue build up. Plus you now have a bubble counter!

yes i have used a check valve and a syringe to make a bubble counter. right now my Co2 not working. i think its the bottle, so im going to get a Coca cola one where the cap should be tight enough.

I'm planning on setting up a DIY CO2 system with a filtration bottle and a piece of chopstick, too!

eBay has a lot of neat diffusers, if you're interested in spending a few bucks for one.

There are DIY diffusers that are relatively inexpensive and waaaaaaay more efficient IMO.
