hey its me again,

this is the final setup for my soon to be african tank setup. ive been trying to find out some species of africans that could work togther that my local petsmart sells. ive been told to stay away from the "assorted african cichlid" tank in the store but nobody has really given me the reason why. my local pestmart sells the usual, common everyday africans like yellow labs, bumble bees, kenyi cichlids, auratus cichlids, blue acei cichlids, and they have one labeled under "electric blue" and i dont know if thats the right name for it. if you can , what combination from the listed above will work in my 55g tank? there are no other fish stores around my area to look in. please help!!!

If you know what you are looking for you can check out the assorted tanks. Generally with assorted tanks you run the risk of getting bad quality, hybrids or common overly aggressive fish. Just be careful.
Have you considered looking elsewhere besides Petsmart? They tend to not sell very nice quality mbuna and also sell some species that are super aggressive. If you look online you can greatly expand your options and get better fish in the long run.
If you still want to go the Petsmart route I suggest, electric yellows, acei and either red zebras or electric blue johannis. Both of the later can be really aggressive but it can go either way.
If it's electric blue hap then you could get one of these but they get big and can be pretty mean.
Avoid auratus, Kenyi, and bumble bees. These guys are super aggressive and can kill of a tank once they mature.

:iagree:

I'd buy online, most people on this forum could set you up with a good seller (just ask). Also, don't know if you are close to any major metro areas, if so, I bet there are some good LFS (non big box types) that would have some really cool quality cichlids. Local fish clubs with swap meets like the GCCA are a great place to score some cool fish.

either find a good cichlid store, i have 2 that i can go to, find a large store that isnt personally owned, not a big box mom and pop and you can find a better selection sometimes, or just go online to get what you truely want. petsmart sucks to but cichlids from, i dont even buy fish there anymore really

i like your design its very different from anything else i have seen, its neet

yea i like the aquascape too. i tryed to give them enough swimming space as well as space for them to get away from their tankmates. i would love to buy online but im only in high school and i dont hav a way to pay for it. Liveaquaria.com has a great selection of cichlids the the prices are a bit sketchy lol
