my convicts breed eggs hatch right when they are about to start swimming they eat the babys why do they do this do i have to take the eggs out and put them in a different tank im confused:help2:

Mine did this for 8 or 9 months before they got it right. I did add a couple extra caves into the tank this last time. She stayed in the cave for a week and refused to let him in. Then she came out with the free swimming brood and he helps take care of them.
What other fish are in the tank? Generally if Cichlids can't protect their young they eat them before the predators do to conserve the energy necessary to spawn again. Artificail incubation is a breeze and if you really want to raise babies you should do it as a matter of course.
