Hello everyone I have a red blue columbian tetra that was just fine a day or two ago and tonight of all nights when I want to finally transfer the new red blue columbian tetras from QT in to join this fish in my main tank I notice white fuzzy stringy stuff adhered to the sides of the fish it definitely looks like fungus.:eek3: The other healthy tetras remain in QT until I know for sure that the other fish don't come down with this fungus I am doing a wc on the 36g tonight.

I took him out of my main tank he is now in a 3.5 L with fresh water I added aquarium salt to the water this is the only QT I have to use not the best but it will have to do. I need to know best meds to use to treat the fungus. I read about Jungle Fungal and Maracyn or Maracyn 2 which is better or any other suggestions need to know asap please want to buy the meds tomorrow. Thanks.

Fungus is generally grey. First step is diagnosis; do you have a picture?

Well I went to LFS and got pimafix it definitely was fungus the fish had an injury on the side of its body and fluffs of white. I treated for two days but unfortunately the fish died :(. I am not great at diagnosing fish disease and did not really have a sufficient qt for him only thing I had available was that 3.5 L container since my 10g QT is already being used for new fish I bought this week. Thanks for trying to help. Am sad that I lost the fish but he had to have been really sick atleast I gave it a shot to save him.

just remember to increase aeration with any meds just to be on the safe side, and watch the ammonia, nitrite because spikes as they will be counter-productive with your fish trying to fight off an infection.

Also primafix- and mela-fix will help with the healing and the Symptoms of bacterial/fungal infections but they won't actually cure a strong infection at the source. These products are not bad if you catch symtoms early but if it gets severe try the API Fungus Cure - 3 mg Victoria Green B and 30 mg Acriflavine per packet.
