I have a pair of Jack Dempseys that have started breeding. The first time they had about 12 babies, but they have disappeared, so I assume they ate them.
They've bred again and I'm wondering what to do to prevent these babies from "disappearing".
I didn't expect them to breed and I have no idea what to do with them, can anyone help?
thanks!

i had a pair of jack dempsies breed and i must have had 60 to 70 fry hatch out. when i moved a couple of months later and took the somewhat older fry to the loca fish store, spotless clean store run by woman who loved fish, i think i had about forty of the little suckers. ime jack dempsy make pretty good parents. the pair i had spawn had paired off and i went out of town for a week. when i came back they had killed all other fish in the tank, except for an emerald cory who hid out under a rock. im just wondering if your fry were maybe consumed by some other tank mates?

hey vance, thanks for answering!
I have a 90 gal. tank and besides the pair of demseys, I have a pair of firemouth cichlids(adults), 3 red-tailed sharks(about 3-4" ea.), one i.d. shark (about 5-6"), an angelfish (about 4") and a few various small tetras, as well as a pleco. The demseys don't allow the firemouths anywhere near the nest - there's no fighting - the male firemouth backs off every time and the female hides all the time anyway.
It seems that the only fish that go on the side of the tank where the nest is are the sharks and tetras. Would any of them have eaten the fry? Should I try to remove the new fry from the tank, or put them in one of those breeding things that hang in the tank? (As you can probably tell - I'm the ultimate newbie in the aquarium department!).
Any help would be greatly appreciated - I'd hate for these little guys to be someone's lunch!

Michelin, could you offer me any advice on getting a couple JD breeders?
I currently have a 4inch male that is going into his own 55g. I was throwing around the idea of possibly getting a female as a tankmate ain hopes of breeding. WOuld this route offer much success, or should I throw in more that 1 female?
