I have some java fern in a 16 gallon cold water and it has always done well. Recently I noticed some brown spots on the leaves of one plant. They were on there for a couple of months and now have started on another plant. They are elevated and are only on the tops of the leaves not the underside. They don't seem to be real harmful to the plants but I'm wondering what they are. I don't have my camera right now but will get pics up soon unless somebody is pretty sure they know what they are from the description. Any ideas? There are two goldfish in there. There are also some cherry shrimp that must've been in the plants when I put them in. Not sure if the cherry shrimp like cold water but they seem to be reproducing so I don't think they're doing too bad.
Thanks

Sounds like the sporangia (structures that produce/contain spores). They should technically be on the "underside" of the leaves though.

Do you know if there's a way to get rid of it?

From my experience, these 'spots' are where the new plantlets sprout from, as above the sporangia. Once the new ones start growing my leaves have blackened and the sprouts go out on their own. Sounds like things are doing as nature intends. Good luck.
