1. 10 gal
2. Water tested at Petsmart recently: parameters all in good condition. I am taking the water to get tested again tomorrow because the fish are currently being treated for ick (also using antibacterial to avoid other infections) and will post new information asap.
3. Brackish
4. Set up January 2010
5. 2 Mollies: late February 2010
3 Platys: early April 2010
1 goldfish: April 15, 2010
6. None of the fish were quarantined.
7. 82 C (for Ick treatment)
8. No live plants
9. Elite Hush 35 (no carbon right now for ick treatment)
10. No other equipment
11. No natural sunlight. Typically light on during day and off at night. During the ick treatment I've kept the light off just in case light caused any issues with medication (read online somewhere)
12. last water change 1 week ago, substrate vacuumed. Before that I rarely changed the water because I only had the two mollies and with the filter there wasn't much to be vacuumed or cleaned.
13. Before ick treatment: twice a day (10 and 5) tropical flakes from aqueon. After ick treatment: twice a day (10 and 5) tropical flakes + Marine flakes with garlic (at the pet store the woman informed me that marine flakes are fine for freshwater fish and that the garlic will help boost their immune system during the treatment)
14. While at work my roommate won a goldfish and decided to put it in my tropical fish tank without permission. I was worried about the tropical fish but didn't have the heart to take the goldfish out. A few days later I noticed that the fish had tiny white spots, the mollies and 2 of the platys had a few, the goldfish had none, and one platy had many. After research I figured out it was Ick, I purchased Maracide for the Ick and Melafix to stop any other infections from starting. Maracide recommends dosing on days 1, 3 and 5 and Melafix daily for a week. Today is day three and the signs of ick are gone but I plan to continue treatment as recommended. Now, however, one of the mollies has a white spot, not really smooth but not cotton like either. She appears to be a little slower but not remarkably. She is still eating and swimming normally. Occasionally the other molly nips at her but they have been doing this since I bought them. The spot is located on her left side behind her eye but in front of her fin.
From what I've researched it seems to be most like fungus or Columnaris but both have symptoms my fish doesn't. I would love any type of information because all of the research I've found is ambiguous and confusing and I'd like to start treatment as soon as possible.
Thanks so much!
