my green zoanthids have attached them selves to a rock nearby with about 15- 20 polyps now attached to the rock itself. how do i actually cut the colony apart and move the frag to a new location? is it really as simple as reaching in with a razor blade and slicing away?? also, if i move the frag to a spot nearby on the same rock will the 2 seperate colonies then fight when they get close enough? or because they are the same type of zoa they will be fine? sorry for the stupidity, never fragged a colony before..
mods, feel free to move this thread to the newbie forum if necessary...not sure where i should put it..
anything else i should know about fragging??

I have Orange Eye Zoas and Green Dragon Eye Zoas growing right next to eachother with no problem, so I'm sure the same kind will be fine.

As far as fraging them goes: if you take a thin blade and carefully pry up the mat beneath the ones you want to separate and then use the blade to actually separate them from the others they will be fine. If you are uncomfortable using underwater epoxy on them (some corals you can't use the epoxy on anyway: e.g. disc anemones/mushrooms), try wrapping bridal mesh (toole) over top of them and around the rock you want them to adhere to. It shouldn't take more than a week for them to attach themselves if you use that method. The toole will help hold them in place while still allowing them to get plenty of flow and light.

I've only fragged my own Zoas once so far using this method and they didn't appear to be stressed at all from it. Other more experienced coral fraggers might have better advice though :)
